Welcome to the second edition of "Small Business Saturday" where I feature a new small business owner each Saturday and let them tell you the secrets to their success! Learn tips from these successful business owners and entrepreneurs and discover some awesome shops along the way!
This week, I'm featuring one of my best friends, Chloe. She was a bridesmaid in our wedding and is married to my husband's best friend - I guess you could say they're our "front porch couple!" (any "How I Met Your Mother" fans?).
Just this year, Chloe started her boutique, Haute as Ice, and it has just blown up! I have already stocked my closet with tons of her clothes - and she has one of the best social media marketing campaigns I've ever seen!
Learn more about Chloe, and Haute as Ice, below!
The name of my small business is... Haute as Ice – A Funky Chic Texas Boutique
I came up with it because... Ice is my last name.. I wanted to use a creative play on words that reflects the fashion industry!
And it first opened... November 25, 2013
My logo and branding was created by... The fabulous Ashley Gardner (that's me, y'all! And this is one of my favorite logos I've ever made!)
It looks like this and it was inspired by... my love and loyalty to Texas with a boho rustic chic vibe!
I run my business from... Home - wherever it is for the time being (Army Life)
And sell... unique boutique clothing with a hippie chic flair
My absolute favorite item is... The Bell of the Ball Lace Pants paired with The Boho Babe Blouse
But my most popular item is... The Fringe Benefits Top and Printed Leggings
If I had to describe my average customer... she would be a busy woman with places to go and people to see. Haute as Ice gals are spunky & spend savvy with a flair for fashion!
If I knew someone who wanted to start a small business, I’d tell them... If you are going into business for yourself because you want to work less hours, make more money or have more flexibility.. you're better off where you are. If you are opening your own business because you have a passion and you're ready to pursue it... in the words of Kacy Musgraves “Follow your Arrow."
The thing that surprised me most about running a small business is... I am always working and I love it!
My advice about advertising and marketing is... If you aren't getting results through your marketing, don't cut your budget... expand it or target other outlets. Stay motivated, stay inspired and stay up on current trends in social media.
In the future, I hope to... be better at self selling. I hope to find a way to share my passion without fear of rejection or feeling like I'm being boastful. As a business owner it can be difficult to separate yourself from your business and not to take criticism personally. Also to celebrate accomplishments... no matter how small!
One of my favorite quotes is... "Be yourself, everyone else is already taken."
